The ultimate most holy form of theory is action. ~ Nikos Kazantzakis
Objective #7: Evidence-Based Practice and Research
Evaluate the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions and other generalist practice activities and client situations in the context of political and social policy by applying both quantitative and qualitative evaluation, research, and effective writing skills to a variety of practice settings.
Case Study Part A (BSW)
Electronic Poster (BSW)
Final Research Project (BSW)
EPB Worksheet #1 (MSSW)
Rationale:
For this objective, I chose to use a case study I completed in the Spring 2008 semester for my Field Seminar course. In this case study, I evaluated a client (the name has been changed to protect confidentiality) based on Bowen's Family Systems theory. This assignment illustrates that I am competent with using evidenced-based theory to intervene with clients. Because no one intervention "fits all," it is important, as a Social Worker, to be able to evaluate, understand and apply a wide range of theories. Further, it is important to have the ability to evaluate interventions using research and statistical data in an effort to ascertain its effectiveness for a specific client or client groups.
Additionally, I have included a copy of my electronic poster and my final paper for my research project which was completed during my Senior year as a BSW student. This electronic poster is a brief summary of the small study that I completed throughout two semesters and showcases my ability to conduct research and apply theories based on statistical evidence. The paper illustrates every single detail of my study from sampling design to SPSS procedures.
Lastly, I have included an EPB worksheet (1 of 10), completed in my Foundations of Evidence-Based Practice course, which displays my grasp of EPB concepts.
